Solutions | Business Consulting
Matlen Silver understands that the technologies are the tools, but
what is most important is implementing technologies that achieve or
exceed your organizations key business drivers. Matlen Silver's
Business Consulting solutions are designed to help your organization
increase revenue, streamline processes, eliminate bottlenecks,
reduce time to market, improve communication, improve
decision-making and create a clear path for your organization.
Matlen Silver's business consulting solutions focuses on guiding
business stakeholders through successful delivery of their
IT-related business initiatives. We accomplish this by enabling
organizations to get more from their IT investments by better
exploiting technology and more efficiently engaging their IT service
providers. This mitigates the threat of implementing IT systems that
under perform or fail to deliver.
Our unique Business Initiative framework, called '5', can guide you
to better decision making, reduced risk, lower costs and increased
quality. The '5' framework contains five components; Discover,
Decide, Validate, Communicate and Monitor. These components provide
a means of quickly identifying the weakest area or largest threat in
your project. '5' can also help you build a more productive
partnership with your IT service providers regardless of whether
they are inside or outside of your organization. Matlen Silver
developed a series of tools designed to support each '5' component.
The '5' Toolbox contains reusable assets which help identify and
remediate risks and weak point in your projects.
Some of the assets in our '5' toolbox includes:
-
Impact analysis of changes to systems or workflow.
-
Requirements gathering, validation and communication to
technical staff.
-
Workflow design and optimization.
-
Software package evaluation.
-
Buy versus build return-on-investment.
-
Testing and acceptance criteria for software delivery.
-
Change management and system deployment logistics.
-
IT liaison services.
Our staff is comprised of seasoned professionals with
extensive business and technology experience. Their well balanced
skill sets and broad experience assists clients in identifying their
project’s unique needs and applying the right tools to ensure
successful project outcomes.
Matlen Silver provides targeted guidance for a
specific project milestone; our specialists execute concise,
intense, results-oriented engagements. In addition, if you are
dealing with broader issues of program management, project
management or IT-related business analysis Matlen Silver can add
clarity and precision to you’re your business initiatives.
5 Framework
The following provides a brief overview of the five
phases of Matlen Silver's '5' framework:
1. Discover -before you can begin to improve anything you must
develop a deep understanding of its current state and its
requirements; in this stage, we explore the relevant processes and
objectives; we inventory the systems and other tools that are
currently in place and analyze them to fully understand why they are
underperforming; this teaches us how we can improve upon the
existing process and enables better decision making.
2. Decide - today’s information technology industry provides a
selection of products and solutions that is both deep and wide; our
Business Consultants study the plethora of new products as they are
introduced and develop an understanding of the relative value of
each; combined with the information about your business collected in
the Discover phase they help you make the best possible decisions
for new design of workflows, system enhancements, and other
bottom-line oriented technology-based improvements.
3. Validate - when an IT initiative fails you can be almost certain
it was because nobody took the time to validate the design,
prototyping and system piloting are crucial prior to general
deployment so problems, threats, or weaknesses can be identified and
adjustments can be made.
4. Communicate - a new system is considered complete only when users
can operate it successfully.; this begins with clear, concise
communication of the goals and objectives of the new system, the
design philosophy, and the pragmatics of system operation including
orientation, training, and day one transitional support.
5. Monitor - to properly manage anything you must be able to measure
it. This includes new system integration. Our methodology culminates
in a strategy to sustain the system through its usable lifecycle,
which includes monitoring of system performance as well as user
results and satisfaction.
‘5’ defines not only the toolset, but also the way in which we
select and implement the tools to resolve business challenges and
improve business processes. Throughout the total system lifecycle
‘5’ provides the means for identifying potential system weaknesses
and threats that may develop over time. It is also designed to help
build a more productive partnership with your IT service providers,
both inside your organization and outsourced resources alike.
